Chana Pulao Ingredients

Chana Pulao is a simple rice dish which required very few ingredients such as -

1. Chana - Chana, also known as chickpeas in English and Kondakadalai in Tamil. There are a few varieties of chickpeas available in the market. You can use any type of chickpea in this recipe. However, I suggest you use white chickpeas, because it tastes best. To make this recipe, you need boiled chickpeas. Please click - how to boil chickpeas here.

2. Basmati Rice - Basmati rice is the best option to cook this recipe. You can use any good quality basmati rice.

3. Fat - Use regular cooking oil, however, you can also use ghee.

4. Other ingredients - You need curd, lemon, garam masala, whole spices and herbs such as cumin seeds, cardamom, cinnamon, bay leaves, ginger garlic paste, green chilli, salt, onion, mint leaves and coriander leaves.

Chana Pulao | Indian Chickpea Pilaf is an easy, flavorful and one-pot Indian rice dish. You can easily prepare this in less than an hour. Perfect for a lunch box, weeknight dinner or elegant enough to host guests.

INGREDIENTS

Boiled Chana/Chickpea/Kondakadalai - 1 1/2 cups
Basmati Rice - 2 cups
Refined Oil - 1/2 cup
Onion - 2
Curd - 1/2 cup
Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 teaspoon
Garam Masala - 1 teaspoon
Green Chilli - 6
Salt - to taste
Water - 4 cups + 4 cups
Mint - 1/4 cup
Coriander Leaves - 1/4 cup
Lemon - 1/2

WHOLE SPICES

Bay Leaves - 2
Cardamom - 3
Cinnamon - 2-inch piece
Cumin Seeds - 1/2 teaspoon

INSTRUCTIONS

1. To begin making the Chana Pulao | Indian Chickpea Pilaf recipe - Keep all the ingredients ready.

2. To Soak - Wash the basmati rice in 3-4 exchanges of running water.

3. In a deep bowl, add the washed basmati rice and fill in with 3-4 cups of water.

4. Allow to soak for 30 minutes.

5. To Prep - Thinly slice the onions, rough chop the green chilli and whisk the curd.

6. To Cook - Heat oil in a heavy bottom biryani pot, add whole spices and saute for a few seconds.

7. Add sliced onions and fry until golden brown.

8. Now add ginger garlic paste and saute for a few seconds.

9. Keep the flame to the lowest and add in the curd and green chilli.

10. Saute until the oil oozes out.

11. Now add the coriander and mint leaves. Mix well.

12. Add garam masala and the boiled chickpeas and cook for 2 minutes.

13. Meanwhile, drain the water from the soaked basmati rice. Keep it aside.

14. Now add the 4 cups of water to the pot and bring it to a boil.

15. While boiling, add salt.

16. Add soaked basmati rice.

17. Gently mix them once. Add the lemon juice and mix well. Allow to cook for 3-4 minutes.

18. Once the water and rice reach the same level.

19. Reduce the heat to the lowest flame.

20. Close the lid and cook for 10-12 minutes.

21. Turn off the flame. Allow them to rest for a while.

22. Open the lid and gently mix them.
